Ohio County KY-ASAP

Ohio County KY-ASAP has been working diligently to make positive change in the community for many years. Recently, they participated in a summit with Donna Bumpus Consulting reflecting on their accomplishments and planning for the future. Thank you, to Anne Melton for her organization, Rebecca Horn for sharing local data, a local undercover narcotics officer for sharing information on the most common substances found in Ohio County, and all those who participated. Mid 2024 Happenings

The past few months have been full of family, fun, and focusing on strategic planning, grant writing and training. One outcome of the team strategic planning is the development of a new presentation. This is the Story of Hillary and ________. The presentation is delivered by Donna and is the story of Hillary being critically injured in a collision with an intoxicated driver. We were honored to deliver this keynote presentation for the 6th grade students in Webster County at the Mini Teen Leadership Conference. If you would like to learn more about this program or other services email donnabumpus@gmail.com or phone at 270-635-0728. The Hillary and _______ presentation can be adapted for children grades 5 to 12 and adults of all ages. Here are a few pictures of the happenings:

Busy in Western Kentucky

October has been a full month of training and celebrating with our local youth coalition. Donna Bumpus Consulting, LLC collaborated with the local Youth Coalition to train peers from central Kentucky. The Coalition seniors led the training with the assistance of their sponsor Courtney Travis and DBC, LLC. The seniors provided information on organizing a youth council (or coalition), training, prevention programs, and evaluation. Donna Bumpus was able to provide information on how the original council was developed in 1997. Courtney Travis contributed information on current data-driven programs being implemented in the community and schools.

Also in October, Donna Bumpus Consulting, volunteers, and local coalition members attended the Western Kentucky Marijuana Summit at Lake Barkley. The Summit was hosted by the River Valley, Pennyroyal, LifeSkills, and Four Rivers Regional Prevention Centers with nationally renowned speakers presenting on marijuana issues.

As always, we are proud of the work our local YES Youth Council/True Blue Crew Youth Coalition members do to prevent younger students from experimenting with substances. We were able to capture pictures of just a few of their October events.

Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere!

Donna Bumpus Consulting, LLC is a proud member of Webster County KY-ASAP Drug Free Communities True Blue Coalition. We admit that much of our experience was developed while working with the local adult and youth coalitions. Our staff and volunteers are excited to participate in local coalition work and recently worked the “True Blue” booth at Onton HayDays. It was a “bubbles bubbles everywhere” day with lots of children and parents visiting the booth for bubbles, information, and great conversation.

Just a few pictures to highlight the fun:

Summer is for Retreating and Training

Summer has definitely brought the heat, but we are staying cool and focused on retreating and training with community collaborators, volunteers, and coalition members.

It’s that time of Year!

Each of us is a member of some sort of team — whether a work team, a sports team, a civic group, youth group, coalition, study group, class, or a family.  Whatever the team, all members can identify pros and cons to the group dynamics.  Perfection is hard to find, even in the very best of teams, groups, councils, or coalitions.  We can all stand to improve the dynamics within our own little world.  So, how do we do that?

In the Team of the Year Playbook and training, we will outline the steps to building an effective adult or youth group (or team) that can change the community. We focus on the characteristics of developing a successful coalition or council, and the difference between the two.

In 30 years of building successful youth teams, coalitions, and councils, the most successful groups are created in the spring. Students identified as committed individuals to the platform are able to participate in training, team-building, and action planning for the upcoming school year. Students are more focused and have ownership of the group when involved in the planning process.

Training to be the Best we can Be!

We are always working to learn and grow to be the best we can — of course — while encouraging others to do the same. In August, we attended the National Drug Endangered Children conference in Kansas City, and in September the Kentucky Kids are Worth It conference in Louisville. These opportunities increased our knowledge of how to best support children and families in western Kentucky. We look forward to a long-term partnership with DEC and Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky to develop individuals and teams to empower and enrich the lives of youth.

The following are a few pictures from these conferences:

Recent Projects

Donna Bumpus Consulting has been very busy recently collaborating with community partners to write state and federal grants, developing new programs, action planning, and training adults to be awesome youth council sponsors. Later this month we will be traveling east to gather data and develop a partnership with another prevention coalition. We look forward to learning from and sharing our successes with some old and new friends. In addition, we will be assisting a new local organization in the 501c3 process and developing a strategic action plan. Exciting times! Reach out if we can assist you with training needs or action planning.
